They Live Movie
67They Live Movie
They Live is one of the greatest stories that has ever been committed to film. I would say that this is a must see for any fan of science fiction, or of John Carpenter. All of the elements are here to provide us viewers with the ultimate testosterone driven cinematic experience. John Carpenter truly ended his run in the 80s in style when he directed this treasure.
If you haven't seen this movie before, or it has been a long time since you saw it last, then lets take a look as to why They Live is great, and why you should see it. I am positive that after after you read my article YOU WILL want to see it, and YOU WILL thank me for recommending this movie.
Roddy Piper
Roddy truly is rowdy in what many critics often refer to as "his finest performance." We feel the struggle that he is going through as he searches the country for an opportunity at finding employment. Only an actor as great as Roddy could "wear" the character of 'George Nada' in a way that we believe he actually is George. Never was an actor more suited to wear the title of 'thespian.'
Who says that wrestlers can not act? Half of the fun of watching this movie is seeing 'Rowdy' show the likes of Oscar winners Robert DeNiro and Jimmy Stewart how it's done. If you listen close enough, you can hear the subtle cry of 'Bobby' everytime this movie is shown on AMC. We cannot take our eyes off of Roddy as he delivers memeroable lines, such as "I have come here chew bubble gum and kick ass...and, I'm all out of bubble gum." Yes young warrior, you are out of bubble gum.
The Beauty of the Piper
They Live Aliens
The aliens in They Live are not the stupid lizard-ish things from the poorly constructed Ridley Scott venture of the late 1970s. These are intelligent aliens that we're talking about here. They are systematically taking over the world, and they are using very creative methods to do so. They're coming in the back door...so that we never see it coming.
The way they take us over is by distracting, and ultimately controlling us through our mass media system. That is just smart.
These are without a doubt the most interesting aliens that I've ever seen talk into wristwatch communicators (and I've seen my share). The scariest part about these aliens is that they are able to look like us! I don't want to get into details, but...it's worth seeing. If you don't have special glasses that makes their true identities visible, then you would never know.
Alien
The They Live Fight
Honestly, we have all been in situations where we had glasses that could dectect whether a person was an alien or not. Also, we have all had to beat the tar out of somebody in an effort to force them to wear our alien seeing glasses so that they believe what we tell them we see. That is what makes the 10 minute fight scene in this movie so believable, and at the same time, so infamous.
All I can say is that you have to see it before you die. This is a scripted fight scene in its finest form. I've never seen any fights on film of this quality before this movie. I have watched this movie 2,437 times, and the battle between the two comrades continues to bring a tear to my eye.
Hot Rod
In Conclustion
Enough chit-chat. See this movie. You will not regret it, and that is something that I can garantee.
John Carpenter + 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper + Buck Flower = Cinematic greatness.

Great job! This is one of my favorite movies. I've been seeing what Piper's character sees for years, but I don't need the sunglasses! Like his pal says in the film, "...maybe they've been with us all along." I think so.
I didn't know who Piper was before I saw this film. But, I figured they were showing him with his shirt off for some reason and he was in truly magnificent shape.
This film is so powerful because it is so simple one one level - it's just a guy flick with a great fight scene and some goofy one-liners. But, look again and you'll see more than just a metaphor for what is going on in this world - it is the naked truth!
Great hub about a great film! Voting you up! Awesome!
